Next mid months net worth report should be looking good and very green, would be hard to see it back in the red pending another major dip. Dividend payers were out in full force this month to my highest total yet but I have to keep my margin in check as interest payments also rise. Been contemplating a bit of restructuring of the portfolio.
In other news I have been feeling pretty depressed lately. Been quite tired for a month now and just feel a bit burnt out. I don't have a specific reason but it just feels like things are adding up. Fell off my healthy diet a bit and the weight is slowly creeping up, Been dealing with family issues that has put a bit of stress on me, Haven't been exercising as much as I usually do as well and another wild card might be the lack of sunlight as winter looms. I think every year i get in a grumpy mood when winter looms. I have decided to take action with all this to get me out of this funk. Just started taking some Vitamin D too hopefully lift my spirits and gone for a fake tan. My doctor thought it would be a good idea as he said I have some Vitamin D deficiencies after examining my blood work and he thinks it will help my yearly depression. Next I will renew my gym membership and start going back again. Also new strict diet will start next week to get my weight and self confidence going back in the right direction. Time to get off my lazy butt and make some things happen.

October sure was crazy for the markets. Huge decline followed by an equally impressive rally. I've thought about finding a good company to do the continuous option selling in the same you're doing with AAPL. It can be fruitful to continually write puts and calls. What's your net dividend/interest from the REIT margin play?
ReplyDeletedividends of reit play is about 963 and interest on margin for it is 360 leaving me a few bucks. Yah trying to focus on one or two stock to play options with, something if I get stuck with it long term I wont mind.
DeleteThanks for sharing another inspirational month of dividend income with us. Hopefully that Vitamin D kicks in and your return to diet/exercise will get you out of your funk. Ate least watching those dividends roll in should be exciting and cheer you up. As always, look forward to another update on your end.
ReplyDeletedepression creeps up slowly on one. I only kinda realized it last week. So this time I am going to take quicker action and stop being so lazy. I have one more day of Halloween candy left then it goes all in the trash. My jeans are fitting tight again :(, Dividends, options and rebound have been great this month and I should be much happier.
DeleteAsset-Grinder,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on an impressive month of dividend income. Are all these dividends from a margin account or 3 accounts (margin, TFSA, and RRSP) ?
My portfolio increased during October by a little. I was suprised even with the capital contributions that I did to my accounts.
These are totals account wide. Can margin, US margin, TFSA and RRSP. This is after withholding taxes as well
DeleteGeez....$2,400 in dividend income. If I was making that, and my wife could still work, I'd consider quitting work and just running the blog :)
ReplyDeleteVery impressive month!
I'm going to start taking some Vit D. supplements myself.
Take care and again, great update,
Mark
Most family doctors in Canada now advise taking Vitamin D these days due to our lack of sun up here.
DeleteI think I have to throw away all my Halloween candy as I have had huge migraines. last few days lol. My old body cant handle this sugar any more.
I have chased to higher yielding stocks but I wanted to get up to a level of sustainability and tax efficiency before I focus more on growth stocks which I will eventually transition too. Also will be adding to a bond allocation at some point.
Nicely done, A-G. Another great month for you - good move on writing puts on Apple...thats free money for you on this rising stock in this market.
ReplyDeleteRe your winter blues, have you considered using light therapy? My wife suffers from SAD every winter and over the last couple of years shes started using a LED light book and sits in front of it for about 15-20 minutes from Oct to Mar. She says that it helps...Nothings as great as being outdoors when its sunny, but being cold and all - its a good alternative. Hope you feel better soon.
cheers

Yah wife bought a light for me last year but I rarely used it. My friend owns a tanning salon down the block and he said drop by anytime for a free tan. I find it relaxing and a bit of stress release from my noisy household. In the past I would just not acknowledge my moody blues but this time I want to get ahead of it.
DeleteOption strategies are just so vast and trying some new stuff to boost income up a bit so I can pay down this margin lol.
A-G,
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel. I always used to notice my mood getting worse when the winter would start to hit. I diagnosed myself with SAD. They say light therapy can help, but I never tried it. Either way, you're still dealing with cold, snow, and dead trees. But it might help. Perhaps that's what the tanning is doing for you.
Keep up the great work with the dividend income. It'll be a long time before I get to this level, but I'm steadily climbing that mountain.
Best regards!
thanks for droppin by man. Took me a long time to man up and stop being so stubborn to acknowledge my moody blues in the winter. My wifey certainly lets me know of my edginess.
DeleteI have been letting some work pile up that I got to bang out soon enough. Problem is its thinks I dread doing. Corp taxes, lots of organizing around the house, home repairs. I am waiting on a personal robot slave to hit the market to help me with this stuff lol.
Another great month and your dividend income is very impressive. Sorry to hear that you've been feeling more depressed lately. It could quite possibly to do with the weather and less sun we're having here in Canada. I've heard light therapy works great.
ReplyDeleteKeep a positive mindset is important. Eating healthy and exercise will do you wonder.
Yah exercise will help out. Miss playing badminton but last month my bum leg has prevented me from playing. Think imma get back to the court this week. My knee doctor is been on vacation for a while and I desperatley need an injection in it as its starting to hurt these days especially with the weather change. Feels like I am 100 years old lately.
DeleteWill keep grinding dividend income till I reach 10k a month at least! Then maybe a cruise around the world for a few months would be nice.
A-G
ReplyDeleteI don't like the winter much really and would prefer to be in a warm area now. I have been wanting to comment and say I do like that risk you took with the REITs. It is nice to see someone go against the crowd sometimes and what is popular. I think it may very well work out for you.
Thanks for the kind words. Still early in the reit play and will be very interesting when interest rates rise. For now I will be watching my margin closely and chip away at it.
DeleteAG,
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how the winter must feel up there. In Houston the temperatures are still in the 70's right now. The summers can be brutal, but November through May is awesome. I like your idea about exercising. I think that will help get you out of your funk.
Great dividend month by the way. You are in full beast mode!
MDP
Yah month was quite good in dividends and just great in options. I dont think I can keep up the option pace tho but will probably get about half the amount in comin months pending I have the stones to play apple at these levels.
DeleteWent for a long walk yesterday and now my calfs are tender. Got to get my lazy butt moving. Started my diet yesterday and my body is feelin weak without sugar!

DeleteDepression hits me hard every year come fall/winter. So hard to keep positive. It does not help that the stock market dropped so fast, so violently. There is always a sense of despair when you watch your portfolio drop 60k
over a month and a half. It seems to add to the helplessness I feel when the winter blues hit. Proper diet, Vit D, exercise all is supposed to work. I had two bad injuries to the same foot in the last two months and that added to my depression as I could not play my favorite sport. Luckily I can take holidays in Phoenix which helps alot. On a brighter note, my dividends this month totaled $3200. This should rise as I still am holding 15% cash, and will slowly buy more stocks. Good luck on your winter blues.
Lol u sound like me. I had a problem with my big toe as well keeping me from badminton. A 60k swing in your portfolio is mega. Tests your patience! Thanks for droppin by.
DeleteAG,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the dividend income, great job again!
Hope you find a way out of your funk soon, pal. I'm experiencing it too because daylight is getting shorter and shorter with winter approaching.
Keep it up,
NMW
