February 2015 Dividends , Options , Adsense and Interest Monthly Report

Steady dividend payers , Steady Apple options premiums as it it continues its upward movement,  Adsense steady and mildly improved , Interest on my margin is going down as I continue to pay it down. Pretty much business as usual.

Right now I am buying some time. I am working on buying a lot to build a new home. So far I have a lot secured but the trouble is financing. Mortgage brokers are making me jump through a few hoops to get it done. I will be pulling equity out of the rental home I just purchased for the lot. I will then try and pull some equity out of my home for the building costs. It is all a bit of a tight rope walk till I figure out the particulars. Will have a post soon on the details on why I am doing all this but I hate to count my chickens before they are hatched.

  1. Asset-Grinder,

Congrats on the option premiums and the dividend income. Each of these is more than what I used to clear in a month at a previous job in 2012.

  3. Another solid month of income from passive and less passive sources. I know I have to jump on those options one day. Your premiums received are amazing. How do you primarily trade options? Covered calls? Writing puts or some other strategy. I have to feel more comfortable with it first. Do you have a site where you paper trade first? Thanks for sharing your update with us. Nice blog stats too by the way.

    1. I started real slow with options but one day after doing some reading it just all made sense. Once u get it, u get it. Start slow with some covered calls. Then on stocks u dont mind owning, start selling some puts and price levels u like. I am still a novice at options but I dont mind trying new things.

Solid work at divhut as usual and thanks for the support here buddy.

    2. If you really want to learn options I highly suggest you test out TastyTrade.com

Tom and Tony were options traders at the CBOE and then started Think or Swim, which was eventually bought out by TD Ameritrade. Now they are teaching the "new age" investor how to trade options and enhance returns.

It is the best education you can get online if you really want to take option trading seriously and if you enjoy selling premium then this is the show for you.

Keep that Theta decay coming :)

      Cheers!

  6. Great looking February AG! The spread on your dividends and margin interest is huge and really looks to be paying off in spades. Especially as you're using it to pay off the principal of the loan as well. Looks like a pretty solid move there. The option income is nice as well. I'd like to get my positions to the size where I could sell some covered calls and generate some extra income but most of my positions are <100 shares so it'd be one contract at a time. Best of luck in March!

    1. Yah tough to do certain options as 100 is the minimum but a few companies do mini option only requiring ten shares. I think covered calls are best for your largest positions where you can keep a closer eye and more focus on.

All the best buddy and glad to see you back!

  8. Crushing the options income my friend! And good to see how small your interest payment is after the last six months. Look like that gamble has paid off well!

Once my accounts get a bit larger I'll start selling puts fairly conservatively, focusing in on steady dividend plays.

    1. Yes selling puts of dividend payers is a strategy I like. You can get the stocks at levels you wouldnt mind paying for and if your dont execute you get the premiums tie and time again like dividends. Love it!

    2. W2R, The premiums get better on down days and pull backs in the market due the inverse relationship in price and volatility. Volatility is your friend when it comes to selling premium.

    1. Yah hopefully March will be solid as I thought Feb wouldnt be as good as it was. You keep grinding that pipeline over there as its a monster! I love how you balance with aggressive investing while maintaining a happy relationship with the wife. Its always a tightrope lol.

  10. Fantastic breakdown! At least you've gotten a lot of bases covered before stepping into your eventual purchase of a house. Buyers should have that kind of grounding whenever they try to set themselves up for a new real estate purchase. After all, it is a question of numbers, as much as it is that of convenience and geography. Thanks for sharing that! All the best!

    1. Before jumping into big things I try and get my ducks in a row. I always think worst case scenario and try to prepare for it. Back up plans is a must. Unfortunately I am very weak on convincing the wife on the move lol. In that area I need all the help I can get! Thanks for droppin by!

  11. Asset Grinder,

Are you selling cash secured puts or are you selling them in a margin account?

You account is big enough for portfolio margin. Do you use portfolio margin?

    Cheers!

    1. Yes using portfolio margin to sell the puts. I dont owe any money in my US account so I can accurately determine how much available room I have in case I get my puts executed. I am thinking of changing over to interactive brokers to get my margin rate dropped from TD bank. Hoping for a savings of 30-35% on margin if I use it.

  12. Crazy amount of dividend man, if COS didn't cut the dividend you'd received even more. I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to COS though.

    1. Yah COS is my biggest loser right now down 52% with my next biggest loser at 25% Lot of panic right now as many guys getting laid off on the oil sands. We will see how things shake out.

  14. AG,

Another excellent month! I can only dream of raking in so much dividend income in one month, congrats.

And that AdSense money is slowly starting to grow. It's actually quite impressive that you managed to make $20 with just 15 clicks. I need at least triple the amount of clicks to get to your level.

    Keep it up,
    NMW

    1. Yah I have no clue how these clicks are working. somedays its 15 cents and others are $2. Untill I can make $100+ a month I will just keep things simple and be at Blogspots mercy!

  15. It is always inspiring for me to work harder to reach where you are now though I am not really rushing. I will slowly and steadily build my portfoilo that will replace my income someday as you are getting close. Keep up the great work Asset Grinder.
